Introduction to Natural Hide Tanning: Sheepskin

2-day Workshop

August 13 & 14 (9:00am - 3:00pm) SOLD OUT

September 10 & 11 (9:00am – 3:00pm)

Instructor: Danielle Prophet

An old craft, diverse and immersive – weaving physical processes, chemistry, instinct, wisdom, honed skill, patience and persistence.

Northern regions the world over have worked with the skins of animals and despite the common reputation, tanning need not be a toxic and industrial activity.  It can be done in a beautiful way, wherein the resulting leather is durable and supple (with no harsh chemicals being employed).

In this workshop you will be working with a sheepskin, learning the art of brain and smoke tanning, while creating leather and soft cushion. These sheepskins have been saved from the landfill, after the animal has been harvested for meat. Over the course of two days you will transform your sheepskin, by way of various techniques and physical work. You will go home with your own finished sheepskin.

$275.00 (all materials included)
