The landscape is loaded with colours all through the seasons. Despite many plants going dormant for the coming winter, there is still colour to be gleaned. Meeting plants and exploring their colourful gifts is one of many fun ways to get connected to your local ecosystems.

This workshop will be part plant wander, and part making. The class will begin with introductions and a walk to meet plants notable for their colours, fibres and food. We will gather some materials to bring back and make into ink/watercolour paint for participants to take home. 

We will explore what it means to gather plants thoughtfully and in reciprocity. There will be a focus on working with European Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), an abundant character on the landscape who greatly challenges biodiversity yet offers so much potent colour potential. We will also explore some earth and lake pigments too. 

Anyone is invited to join this class. The start of the day will involve walking under 2km of the Cordwood property, with lots of stopping, looking at plants and gathering some materials.
We will be outdoors as much as possible (minimum 1h, rain or shine). The remainder of the day we will be using our hands to squeeze, stir and crush plants/rocks, allowing some time to sit and paint with the colours we create at the end of the day.
