PA Day - Calling and Clogging for Youth

1-day Workshop

For ages 10+

Friday, May 29 (9:00am – 3:00pm)

Instructor: Teilhard Frost

Dancing is better than it sounds! For some reason or other, modern society has been neglecting this fun, interactive, therapeutic activity more and more over the years. There is a joke, “Why don’t some people hug standing up? Because it may lead to dancing!”

Teilhard has been dancing his entire life and would like to see more people join him. Flatfoot Buckdance, also known as clogging, is an old style dance which was the parent to modern tap dance. This simple folk dance, as easy as walking, is used to accompany kitchen tunes, party fun, and enhance a walk to the store or a wait for the bus. You can do it big and loud or quiet and subtle.

Along with the clogging, Teilhard will also teach old time square dances and how to call them. Square dancing is an interactive dance in which you and a partner interact with other couples on the floor. Listening to the calls (also know as prompts), the dancers move through the steps like a flowing river. It’s easy to learn, and it’s fun!

In this workshop, participants will also learn to call at least two dances. Square dancing is an excellent way to break the ice and get to know your friends a bit more. It is a team activity which brings people together and promotes cooperation and caring.
