In this one day workshop you will learn how to weave a small round basket made by coiling bundles of very fine willows. 

 

We will begin by weaving a traditional stake & strand basket base with a 4×4 slath. The walls of the basket will be built up with a coiling method that utilizes a blanket stitch in waxed thread. The overall size and shape of the basket will be decided by each student. The sample pictured below has a 4.5″ diameter and is 2.25″ tall.

 

This style of basketry is quite versatile as the coiling method can be applied to other materials such as pine needles, long garden leaves/grasses, jute and string.

 

This is a beginner friendly workshop open to ages 12+.
