
Introduction to Tool Steel; Forging Bushcraft Tools

In this one-day course we will cover the difference between steel alloys, and the theory behind the hardening/tempering process. We will start by forging a pioneer style flint and steel kit (tin included). Students will then move onto making a simple yet highly versatile tool; the stitching awl.
You will be guided through the forging process, and be free to personalize the tools to your taste.
Expect a full day of detailed instruction and practice in this intimate, 4-student, class. Prepare to be on your feet for the majority of the day, with a break for lunch.
Please wear non synthetic clothing, and leather aprons and work gloves are encouraged. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. Eye protection will be provided and is to be worn at all times. Students will be required to sign a safety waiver before the workshop begins.
