Spend a day working with birch bark and spruce root, in making a small folded and stitched basket. The day will start with the preparation of pre-cut sheets of birch bark, and participants will learn how to soak, then bend/fold them into shape, and peg them together. From here, you will be guided through stitching techniques, using spruce root to stitch your basket together. A rim will be attached at the end to complete the basket. Sustainable harvesting methods of birch bark will also be discussed, and how to approach these centuries old indigenous cultural practices with respect.
