Introduction to Chainsaw Maintenance and Tree Removal

This course will help participants gain knowledge in basic chainsaw maintenance, hazard identification, felling and proper tree sectionalization. The course is taught by a certified utility arborist working in the field. With a specific focus on safety, the program will outline the basic skills needed to maintain your equipment and operate a chainsaw with minimal risk. The course is intended to build general knowledge and confidence.
Section 1 (morning)
Chainsaw general knowledge and care
Chainsaw safety, operation and technique
Proper chain sharpening
Chainsaw troubleshooting
Section 2 (afternoon)
Tree inspection and hazard identification
Notching and removals
Sectionalizing a downed tree
Types of wood and how to avoid pinching your bar
Make note:
There is no official certification for participants.
The required equipment for this course is a chainsaw, chaps, safety glasses, gloves and boots (steel-toed are recommended but not required)
