A Five Petaled Herbal Practice for the Fall

Half-day workshop
Sunday October 22, 1-4pm
Instructor: Meghan Robinson (@clarendonherbals)

In this three hour workshop we will discuss and explore the following five ways of incorporating herbs into your daily life, simply and practically.

• You will learn about 10+ common herbs and their applications to supporting our health from the ground up.

• We will discuss plant uses, harvesting methods, processing and preparing remedies at home.

• We will explore our relationship to plants and self as receiver of plant knowledge and guidance for finding the balance between the intellectual and experiential approach to plant knowledge.

• We will go on an herb walk around the Cordwood Studio and identify some common plants.

• We will craft an herbal smoke bundle and a customized tea blend for you to take home.

Meghan will also provide a unique herbal tasting menu to be sipped throughout the afternoon.

A project that finally happened! I got to spend ma A project that finally happened! I got to spend many hours with my dad who has learned car mechanics over his lifetime of owning used vehicles and having an inquisitive and mechanical mind, and a do-it-yourself mentality. I rarely get to spend time like this with him and it was treasured. He is an amazing teacher and I believe he could solve any problem thrown at him, mechanical or otherwise.

What we did:
Front struts
Back brake rotors
Back brake pads
Front, left brake caliper
Power steering line

But mostly what we did was figure out the easiest ways to remove rusty bolts from dozens of hard to get to places. Seeing the original parts from 2009 contrasted with the new parts amazed me! It also made me trust the vehicle more, knowing how intricate and well engineered these parts really are.

After the new power steering line was drained, brake and power steering fluids topped up and battery charged we turned over the engine for the first time since the spring. Blue smoke started billowing from the hood. The alternator had seized and the serpentine belt snapped. Luckily, we just needed to grease up the alternator with old motor oil, then work it back and forth to unseize it and get it to turn a full rotation. After putting a new serpentine belt on the car is now back on the road.

It feels so good to have gained this knowledge and experience and it’s got me thinking about hosting an intro to car mechanics course. I’d take it! Anyone else?
