Shearing School for Beginners
Three Day Course
Friday October 2 (6:00pm – 8:30pm), Saturday October 3 & Sunday October 4 (8:00am-5:00pm)
Instructors: Peter Kudelka, Ruco Braat, Tom Redpath
Students will learn shearing setup, sheep handling, handpiece setup, staying healthy while shearing, and the handling of wool.
Some course topics will include:
Shearing patterns, sheep handling and positioning
Techniques and quality methods of shearing for better efficiency and the improved harvest of the wool clip.
Gear preparation, tool maintenance and grinding techniques
Bio security awareness
Health and nutrition
Wool handling and fleece preparation
Courses are limited to small groups to ensure a high instructor-to-student ratio (4:1). All instructors are experienced, professional shearers.
All equipment is provided.
Disclaimer: this course is very physical. We will have a yoga instructor, leading some stretches and exercises both Saturday and Sunday mornings. They will focus on the areas most used and strained while shearing.
