Tasting the Wild; A Phytochemical Plant Journey

One-day Class

Saturday August 15 (10:00am – 5:00pm)

Instructor: Amber Westfall

“We are used to responding to the environment with our whole bodies.” ~ Paul Bergner

Deepen your experience of herbal medicine with this full day class that explores the phytochemistry, energetics and therapeutic actions of plants through the senses. Together, we’ll uncover how specific chemical constituents such as tannins, mucilage, pungent compounds and more, give rise to the flavours we perceive and the healing effects of many botanical remedies.

We will trace the relationship between taste and physiology, develop sensory discernment, and experience plants directly through the senses in order to better understand herbal actions, identify properties, predict therapeutic effects and cultivate an embodied knowledge of medicinal herbs.

This workshop is designed for those who want to move beyond memorizing herbal uses in books and practice an unmediated, sensory fluency directly with the plants themselves. By attuning your senses to the rich phytochemical matrix of plants, you’ll leave with a more nuanced, connected and expanded approach to herbalism.

$185.00

A fresh, homemade lunch and a morning snack with coffee/tea is included. All dietary needs accommodated.
