Johnny is back with another two day willow basketry class! 

This time we will be making an oval market basket with some beautiful willow bark detail.

You will learn:

• oval bases
• reverse pairing
• 3 rod wale
• 4 rod wale
• French rand
• bark weaving
• 4 behind 2 borders
• wrapped handles with a herringbone finish.

This class is open to weavers ages 16+ with previous applicable experience weaving baskets.

We will be using cultivated basketry willows grown in Ontario by Lakeshore Willows.  However, the techniques gleaned over the course of the two days can also be used with wild willow, dogwood, and any other woody material that has the same long, flexible characteristic.

DISCLAIMER: Weaving willow is essentially braiding with wood. Willow is a tough material and, although basketry can be a very peaceful and meditative practice, it takes some time to learn. Please consider how two days of repetitive twisting of your wrists, and pointed pressure with your fingers will leave you feeling at the end of each day. If you have difficulty working with your hands for long periods of time, this class may not be right for you.
